The Background

eng-monde.jpg
It is possible to distinguish a number of families of law, in particular that of the Anglo-American or common law countries, and that of the civil law countries (which include France).
The common law is gaining ground on the world stage, to the detriment of our own legal and economic culture. This is why the influence of the civil law tradition and its advantages must be developed, especially in relation to business and the economy.
It is necessary to develop and put into effect a rich, diversified body of law, and this can be achieved through competition between different systems of law.
It was against that background that the Fondation pour le droit continental – Civil Law Initiative was created, to reinforce the status of civil law and promote legal balance in the world.
