Presentation

The Chair has been established by an agreement between the Faculty of Law of Casablanca and the Fondation pour le droit continental, it is named the “Chair of the Fondation pour le droit continental at the Hassan II University in Casablanca”. 

This cooperation, headquartered at the Hassan II University in Casablanca, is developing, not only in academic environments, but also in the direction of legal and judicial environments and business circles, in order to create a forum for common thinking and action.

Each academic year, the Chair organizes a course having as its subject a general theme that is able to highlight the values and the methods of the continental culture legal culture, and which is of particular interest for the jurists of the Maghreb.

It will be selected by mutual agreement in the month of January of each year by Hassan II University in Casablanca and the Fondation pour le droit continental.

The yearly course will be taught over a semester.

It is included in the third cycle  Program (Master and Doctorate) of the Faculty of Law of Casablanca. It is likewise open to students to other universities in the Maghreb and the general public having an interest.

This chair has been created with the help of Mr. Azzedine Kettani, member of the Scientific Council.

 Scheduled sessions:

• March 2010 on the general theme of “Law and Economics”

Inaugural conference:  Continental law facing globalization, Professor Michel Grimaldi, Professor at the University Panthéon-Assas (Paris II).

First conference:  The Law of surety, Insolvency proceedings and economics, Professor Philippe Dupichot, Professor at the University Paris XII.

Second conference:  The law of contracts and economics, by Professor Yves-Marie Laithier, Professor at the University of Reims.

Third conference:  The law of companies and economics, by Professor Michel Germain, Professor at the University Panthéon-Assas (Paris II).

•  April- May 2011 on the general theme of “The law of contracts”

 The draft reforms to the French law of contracts, by Michel Grimaldi, Professor at the University Panthéon-Assas (Paris II),

 The European law of contracts: status of the matter, by Benoît Kohl, Professor at the University of Liège, Attorney,

 Consumer protection in banking law, by Alain Gourio, Head of Group Legal Coordination BNP Paribas, President of the legal committee of the European Mortgage Federation. 

 Formalism in the law of contracts, by Jean-Paul Decorps, Notary, President of the International Union of Notaries.

• December 2011 - January 2012 on the theme : "Insolvency proceedings of companies"

The first conferences are organized in December 2011, which involved Mr. Michel Grimaldi, Professor at the University of Paris II, Panthéon-Assas and Mr. Rainer Schröder, Professor at the Humboldt University in Berlin (Germany).

The second conferences are organized in January 2012 which involved Mrs. Michèle Grégoire, Lawyer and Professor at the Free University of Brussels (Belgium) and Mr. Reinhard Damman, Lawyer .
