Develop applied research

The partnership signed in 2010 by the Fondation and the Specialized Masters in Law and International Management program at HEC Paris gave rise to the drafting of a final report on “Choice of Law” showing the estimated economic weight of the “legal industry".

Eight themes were identified, eight working teams were assembled:

- The weight of the French “legal industry” in the national GDP

- The weight of the “legal industry” in the GDP of the industrialized countries

- The comparative cost of the legal services for an international sales contract or business contract, in civil law and in common law

- The comparative cost of the legal services for an  international merger-acquisition contract, in civil law and in common law

- The comparative cost of the legal services for a syndicated loan agreement (multilateral LMA[Loan Market. Association] type), in civil law and in common law

- The comparative cost of the legal services for an international project financing contract, in civil law and in common law

- The comparative cost of the legal services for an international derivatives contract, in civil law and in common law

- The position of Paris as a location for international arbitration.

In July 2011, the reports submitted by each team were assembled into a final summary report.

The content of this report was presented publicly on the occasion of a joint event hosted with HEC, on June 21, 2011, HEC’s facilities in Paris.

The final report entitled “Choice of Law” will be published in the coming months.
