The European Commission published its 2010 report on EU citizenship entitled “Removing the Obstacles to EU Citizens' Rights”.
Among the 25 actions proposed, three particulaerly caught our attention:
- Allowing international couples to more easily determine which courts have jurisdiction and which law applies to their property rights by proposing a legislative instrument in 2011
- Facilitating the free movement of census documents and public records by proposing legislative instruments in 2013
- Facilitating efficient and inexpensive out-of-courtresolution of problems encountered by consumers in the EU by proposing, in 2011, a legislative instrument covering other dispute resolution mechanisms, by studying the proposals aimed at setting-up a dispute resolution system online throughout the EU for electronic commercial transactions by 2012 and by favoring increased use of mediation services by 2013.
