Commissioner Michel Barnier presented a document by the European Commission entitled “Towards a Single Market Act For a Highly Competitive Social Market Economy”, which contains 50 proposals, 8 of which particularly caught our attention:
- Continuing the mutual evaluation process of the Services directive
- Legislative proposals aimed at simplifying and updating the European rules for awarding public contracts
- A legislative initiative on service concessions to encourage public-private partnerships
- The double objective of promoting regulatory cooperation with third-country regimes and pushing for wider adoption of international standards in negotiations for trade agreements
- A set of actions on services of general interest
- The launch of a public consultation related to corporate governance
- An initiative on the use of alternative dispute resolution in the EU
- A public discussion of a European approach to class action lawsuits
